With operations scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2032, CPK Airport is set to become a competitive alternative to leading airports in the region. In the longer term, the number of passengers is projected to exceed 40 million by the beginning of the next decade.

Other airports in the Mazovian Voivodeship are not lagging behind. Modlin Airport is expected to handle 7.1 million passengers in 2032, reflecting the growing interest in low-cost flights. Meanwhile, Radom Airport, despite its modest capacity, aims to serve up to 400,000 travelers.

Key Role of Expanding Chopin Airport

According to the government’s plenipotentiary for CPK, Maciej Lasek, such optimistic forecasts would not be possible without the decision to simultaneously modernize Chopin Airport. Lasek believes that abandoning the development of Warsaw’s main airport would be a grave mistake, potentially resulting in the loss of passengers to competing airports in the region. The planned expansion is intended to ensure that both airports will be able to meet the current and future needs of the market when the new hub in Mazovia opens.

The modernization of Chopin Airport is expected to be completed before the start of the summer season in 2029. As a result, the capacity of Warsaw’s airport will increase to approximately 30 million passengers annually, with an additional 10% flexibility. This step will guarantee the capital’s continued high-level functionality until the complete transfer of commercial traffic to CPK.

The CPK company also provided details on gradually increasing the number of operations at Chopin Airport in the coming years. Between 2025 and 2028, the daily limit of departures and arrivals can be raised by about 20 operations annually, enabling more than 800 daily operations during the summer season of 2029. No significant changes are planned for nighttime flights.

This planned schedule will help avoid congestion and maintain smooth passenger service, which is particularly important given the rapidly growing number of travelers. The simultaneous modernization of existing infrastructure and construction of the new airport aims to ensure the stability of Poland’s aviation market for several decades to come.
