At the last press conference, the spokesman of the Centralny Port Komunikacyjny company, Konrad Majszyk, announced that in 2022 an application for an environmental decision of Port Solidarność would be submitted. It is also planned to select the main designer of the main passenger terminal and transfer nodes. The decisions that will be taken in 2022 will have a direct impact on the shape of the airport, its function and integration with the railway line. The overriding goal of the company is to start preparatory construction works by the end of 2023.
The location of the airport
Preferred airport locations, which were presented to residents in mid-December, will be consulted with planners by the end of 2021. These steps are needed for applications for environmental decisions. At the same time, environmental and field research should end soon. They were conducted on a large scale from the beginning of 2021.
The spokesman of the STH also pointed out that in the area of 335 square kilometres, i.e. in the area of the planned airport and around it, a comprehensive inventory of animal and plant species as well as of birds that may pose a potential threat to air traffic took place.
Design selection
The airport design will be selected from the list of global architectural studios participating in the tender. It is about the so-called masters architects, that is, chief architects. An entity with international experience in large airport investments will be appointed to implement the project of the main passenger terminal and the STH transfer hub
The property purchases will continue under the voluntary acquisitions program, which will run from December 2020. A number of contracts have already been signed and further transactions are being prepared, and property appraisers make valuations on the basis of subsequent purchase offers submitted by the company. According to the spokesperson of STH Konrad Majszyk, over 200 owners have already contacted PDN, expressing their willingness to sell the property.
Railway investments
In the case of railway investments under the Solidarność Port, it is expected that by 2022 the Technical, Economic and Environmental Study will commission about 1,000 km of planned railway lines in 2021. As part of these contracts, in 2022, investor variants of the route will be created, which will be included in the application for an environmental decision.
The role of STH is the most flexible adaptation of the designed infrastructure to the latest trends, taking into account the so-called the COVID-19 effect and the increasingly important role of air cargo transport.
